    Hello,

Has anyone successfully built and configured a Raspberry Pi Soundmodem TNC? I’ve found several tutorials online but all of them are dated and/or lack some variety of detail. It would be great to hear about about someone’s build experience and any challenges they had.

I’ve gotten almost everything I need to get started. At present, I still need to buy or fabricate a cable to go between my USB Soundblaster device and my Baofeng UV-5R radio. In the interim, I plan on cabling my speaker and microphone jacks together which should create a hardware loopback for local testing.

    Thanks in advance,

I have configured a Raspberry Pi 3 using a SignaLink USB sound card along with a USB Cat cable to control my IC-706MKII. I also have a logging program running on the Raspberry Pi 3. The one thing I did, which helped is having an external hard drive as my system disk (used old 2.5 in drive in a cheap external USB enclosure).

I found that a Raspberry Pi B did not have enough horse power to run all this successfully.

    Hello Larry,

What resources did you use when building your Pi/Soundmodem? Are you running the latest version of Raspbian (Jessie) or an older version (Wheezy)? What are you using your setup for: APRS, Packet BBS, X.25?

    Thanks!

I am using the latest Raspian with many updates from the initial installation. As for setup I’ve been using HF configurations, both PSK31 (fldigi) and JT65/JT9 (wspr-x). The only issue I’ve seen is that it seems the power supply for the Raspberry Pi may not be strong enough to always key the radio properly. I’ve not yet invested into a secon supply to drive just the external disk.

If you like you can call me as I am at home for further discussion.
